Who would have thought a selfie stick could save a life? 16 year old Erynn Johns must be thanking her lucky stars she had her selfie stick while swimming at Surfside Beach in Nantucket.
Johns and her father were swimming at the beach when they got caught in a rip current. She told WCVB-TV the waves kept pushing her under “I came up for a second and I was able to breathe, but another wave would come and I’d just go right back under,”
Johns credits the selfie stick, along with a heroic experienced surfer in orange shorts, for her rescue. The amazing thing? Erynn recorded the whole ordeal.

BTW, if you ever get into a situation like Erynn did, experts say you try and stay calm and don’t fight the current. Instead, swim parallel to the shore line until the current dies down.
